Why do you love reading?
I love reading because it transports me to different places and experiences, and lets me learn new things I may have never encountered before. I also love discussing a great book with a fellow reader, or convincing someone to pick up one of my favorite titles.
What book or series got you into reading?
When I was younger, I loved Roald Dahl books, namely Matilda. She was a voracious female reader who used her brain power to achieve supernatural powers. How cool is that? When I was little, I secretly hoped that if I read enough books and concentrated really hard I would be able to move objects in my house without touching them.
When did you start reading?
I’ve always been a big reader, and loved reading at all stages of my life. The first book I read on my own was Green Eggs and Ham, and I’ve been reading ever since!
Where do you read?
I mainly read at home after work, but my reading life isn’t limited to my couch! I listen to audiobooks in the car and while I complete puzzles, and I read e-books while waiting in line or on my lunch breaks.
What kind of books do you like to read?
I read all kinds of genres, but mainly read literary and contemporary fiction. Recently, I’ve made an effort to broaden my horizons and started reading more fantasy, graphic novels, poetry, and YA books.
For you, why is it important to read books by or about women?
I feel like reading books by women is important because the female viewpoint is just as important as a man’s. The male narrative is so highly emphasized in our culture, and more often that not the female perspective is lost as a result. As a woman, I enjoy reading books I can relate to and am inspired when books reflect my own personal experiences.
What about you as a reader are you looking forward to sharing on Reading Women?
I look forward to providing my perspective as an avid reader and biracial Asian American woman. If my thoughts can get at least one person excited, intrigued, or interested in picking up a title I loved—I would be so happy!
What are you most excited for about joining the RW team?
I’m most excited to work with this amazing group of women, and learning from their thoughts and experiences. I’m also eager to connect with the wonderful listeners dedicated to the podcast!
